Senator Rafferty previews upcoming roundtable here (Audio)
DOWNINGTOWN – Senators John Rafferty (R-44) and Tom McGarrigle (R-26) will host the Senate Majority Policy Committee, chaired by Senator David G. Argall (R-29), for a roundtable discussion on school safety efforts.
The roundtable will be held on Tuesday, September 11 at 1 p.m. in the James E. Watson Staff Development Room at the Downingtown Area School District, 540 E. Trestle Place in Downingtown.
“This event is to have an open discussion with people with firsthand knowledge to give their input on what the state should look at going forward as to how we best protect students, teachers and administrators,” Rafferty said. “We are going to talk about all the options that are available with the understanding that there is no one size fits all solution.”
“My colleagues and I have taken several steps this legislative session to give schools the resources they need to identify threats and prevent violence against our students and staff,” McGarrigle said. “But this has to be an ongoing process and one driven by input from education officials, law enforcement and others throughout our communities. This roundtable is an important part of that process.”
“These roundtable discussions are beneficial to share ideas, gather feedback and push forward solutions that will help schools in every region throughout the state address this key issue,” Chairman Argall said. “The safety and security of students, teachers and administrators is paramount.”
The public roundtable discussion will feature a brief summary of recently passed legislation, pending proposals that are awaiting action by the General Assembly and a focus on new school safety solutions from local participants.
The public is invited to attend.
