Pennsylvania Senate Adopts Resolution Encouraging Pennsylvanians to Participate in the ICE Campaign

(HARRISBURG) -  A Senate Resolution, prime sponsored by Senator John Rafferty (R-Montgomery), was adopted Monday afternoon by the full Senate. Senate Resolution 252 encourages all citizens of Pennsylvania to take part in the "In Case of Emergency" campaign by entering information, under the acronym of ICE, into the memory of their cellular phones in order to assist medical and other emergency personnel in contacting designated persons in the case of an emergency.

Every year, there are thousands of emergency room patients who are unable to provide contact information because they are incapacitated.  The addition of an emergency contact number in a person's cell phone memory under the heading of ICE enables paramedics and police to contact designated persons or obtain medical information in an emergency.

"In this day and age, almost every person carries a cell phone on their person or in their car.  By entering an emergency contact number under the ICE acronym, an individual who is incapacitated in an emergency medical situation can assist police or medical personnel by providing them with a contact person who may be able to convey necessary medical history information or even respond to the scene of the emergency," Rafferty said.
