Rafferty Supports Extending Deadline for Military Ballots

Harrisburg – Senator Rafferty today joined Congressman Curt Weldon in calling on Governor Ed Rendell to extend the deadline for which absentee ballots, so all can be counted.    Because some ballots where not sent out on-time, it will be nearly impossible for all of our military men and women to have time to vote and return their ballots before the deadline, and thus Senator Rafferty supports a two week extension.

Senator Rafferty also wrote the Governor a personal letter and joined the Chester County Legislative Delegation in a separate letter asking the Governor to move quickly to support our troops.

Senator Rafferty said,  "We should make every attempt to count all the votes of the men and women who are fighting to support us, thereby extending the deadline for ballots.  The Governor should concur with the federal lawsuit to extent the deadline for receiving the ballots."  Rafferty also added:  "The Commonwealth’s priority should be ensuring that our military personnel’s votes count and not take such great lengths to get prisoners to vote."
